Inflammation may influence weight loss surgery outcomes, new study reveals

Research funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has shown that higher levels of inflammation in the blood of patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery predicts poorer weight loss six months after the procedure.

Professor Ulrike Schmidt elected as Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences

Professor Ulrike Schmidt joins outstanding biomedical and health scientists as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. The new Fellows were selected for their exceptional contributions to the advancement of medical science and translation of scientific knowledge into benefits for patients and society. Ulrike leads the Eating Disorders and Obesity Theme in the NIHR Maudsley BRC.

Experts update global guidelines on treating eating disorders with medication

Guidelines on the pharmacological treatments of eating disorders have been updated to include new recommendations for the use of medication for binge-eating disorder and bulimia.

NIHR Maudsley BRC receives new investment from Government

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded £41 million to the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London. The NIHR funding is for five years from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2027.
