Please note that NIHR updated its brand in spring 2026, and our new name is as follows:

Affiliations on research papers
Please add NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Maudsley when recording your Affiliation in any research articles, conference papers or other outputs, when the research has been significantly supported by our BRC.
Where your role is significantly funded by, or prominent within the BRC, e.g. Theme or Deputy Theme Lead, we suggest that BRC be your primary institution.
Generally, King’s authors can cite King’s College London as their primary institutional base, and BRC as secondary where possible.

Funding Acknowledgments
Researchers supported either directly or indirectly by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley must acknowledge that support in their research outputs.
This support may take the form of directly incurred salary costs, directly allocated salary costs for Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) staff, training awards (studentships/fellowships/bursaries), pilot project awards or use of equipment, clinical research facilities or specialist staff funded by the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Maudsley award.
Scenario 1: Instances where the research received majority funding from the BRC
Acknowledgement and disclaimer for NIHR research at the BRC:
“This study/research is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley. The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the NIHR or the Department of Health and Social Care.”
Please also acknowledge any other NIHR support the research may have received.
Scenario 2: Instances where the research was funded by another funder but delivered through the BRC
Statement (including funder and disclaimer)
“[Research funder statement] This study has been delivered through the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley. The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the [name of the research funder], the NIHR or the Department of Health and Social Care.”
Please also acknowledge any other NIHR support the research may have received, for example, through a research programme award.
Scenario 3: Minimum statement to be used in instances where there are funder details and/or word count restrictions AND the research was funded by another funder but delivered through the BRC
Acknowledgement only (for use within a broader set of acknowledgements/disclaimers)
“The research was carried out at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley.”
Part-funded roles
If you are part-funded by the NIHR, please acknowledge this in the research paper. For example: “[researcher name] is part-funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley.”
For PhD students
“The first author is in receipt of a PhD studentship funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC): Maudsley. The views expressed are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the NHS, the NIHR or the Department of Health and Social Care.”
For studies that have utilised the NIHR Clinical Research Facility: King's and are supported by the NIHR BRC: Maudsley
“This study/project is delivered through the NIHR Clinical Research Facility: King’s and [funded by/delivered through/carried out at – depending on the level of funding or support to match the statements in the guidance above] the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Maudsley at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College London. If you are including logos on any of your outputs, please ensure you are using the most up to date NIHR BRC: Maudsley logo, pictured below, or the ‘Supported by NIHR’ logo.
The navy-coral combination is the primary logo; if you require any other colour-ways, e.g. Black / White / Navy then please contact the BRC communications team.
