The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) has awarded £1.3 million to South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to pay for new research equipment and technology. The funding will go towards a new Centre for Advanced Neurotherapeutics, a Digital and Virtual Reality Centre and Hub, and retinography equipment.

Earlier this year under the Conservative government a Green paper opened up a consultation on the future of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) - a welfare benefit claimed by many people with mental health and neurodivergent conditions as well as people with physical health conditions. Researchers from King’s College London investigated how this benefit is received by people who are accessing mental health services and, together with members of a patient and public involvement and engagement group who advise on the project, have written a blog to explain their latest findings.

FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) has launched online learning resources for professionals to be able to offer improved support during this time.

Researchers at King's College London, supported by the NIHR Maudsley BRC, are the first research team in England to link electronic mental healthcare records to census data, at an individual level. Published in the ‘BMJ Open’ and funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) the study involved linking de-identified data (with personal information removed) of 459,374 patients from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust to census data from 2011.
