South Asian Heritage Month (SAHM) is a month-long celebration in the UK, of the heritage of people from the South Asian countries of Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives.

Taking place from 18 July to 17 August each year, SAHM was established to appreciate and celebrate South Asian history and culture.

Last week, the King’s Clinical Research Facility (CRF) took part in a special SAHM themed fashion show with other teams from across the Trust. Each team taking part had two representatives – one from a South Asian country and the other from the rest of the world – with both representatives showcasing traditional South Asian fashion.

Clinical Research Practitioner, Pratik, represented India alongside CRF colleague Olena, with Pratik wearing a Kurta Pyjama with west coat and Olena wearing a Lehenga (pictured below).

Pratik said: “Olena and I were proud to represent the CRF in the Trust’s South Asian Heritage Month celebrations. We wanted to take part to represent the diversity at King’s, showcase Indian attire and increase awareness of the contribution of South Asian communities to the NHS.”
