£42m boost to mental health research announced by Office for Life Sciences

A new Mental Health Mission, announced today by the Office for Life Sciences, will provide £42.7m worth of funding for mental health research in the UK.

New Deputy Director of NIHR Maudsley BRC announced

Professor Grainne McAlonan has been appointed as Deputy Director of the NIHR Maudsley BRC from May 2023 following a competitive call earlier this year. Professor McAlonan will take over from Professor Matthew Hotopf as interim BRC Director from this August.

New CEDI Champion for the NIHR Maudsley BRC

Dr Mariana Pinto da Costa is our new BRC Champion for Culture, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (CEDI). Dr Mariana Pinto da Costa is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King’s College London. She is also a Consultant Psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

A Year in Review 2022

This year our research hit the headlines - from the benefits of birdsong to the predictive power of genetics; while our researchers took to our blog to discuss important issues - such as improving equality in pain management and diversity in research studies. At the end of the year we launched our new BRC and research themes for 2022-27, and our new microsite - Stories of Research - shows how we are making a difference to mental health.
