'Our Research Themes': introducing our ten themes and the people leading them

our research themes 2022-28

During the next few weeks on social media the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre will be showcasing the ten research themes which will be the focus for the next six years (December 2022 – March 2028).

The campaign will be launched on the NIHR Maudsley BRC's  social media channels and will consist of short videos explaining each theme and content introducing the research leads. You can find our social media channels here:

Professor Matthew Hotopf CBE, Director of NIHR Maudsley BRC and Vice-Dean of Research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London said:

“We hope that through this campaign people can gain insight into the mental health and neuroscience research that we conduct at our NIHR Maudsley BRC, and the journey of translating scientific discoveries into new treatments and services which have a real impact on people's lives. By working together with our patients, participants, partners and collaborators we will continue to study the many aspects of mental health science and ensure that we share knowledge and learning as widely as possible.”

Part of NIHR, and hosted by South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with King's College London, the NIHR Maudsley BRC aims to speed up the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical treatment and care in mental health and neurological conditions. The centre brings together scientists and clinicians from different disciplines, so that findings from research can then be evaluated, developed and implemented in the NHS.

In October 2022 the centre was awarded £41 million by the NIHR to continue its work developing better and more targeted treatments across the spectrum of mental disorders and pain. The NIHR Maudsley BRC is one of 20 Biomedical Research Centres across England. BRCs translate scientific discoveries into new treatments, diagnostic tests and medical technologies for patients. You can read more about the funding announcement here.
