Trainees' public & patient engagement

Trainees supported by the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) are encouraged to participate in patient and public engagement activities.

These activities include

  • A number of our trainees participate in the Youth Awards scheme, mentoring award winners
  • A new online film 'Men's views of mental health and how they deal with it' to engage the public in more positive discussions around men’s mental health was released during Mental Health Awareness Week 2020. The 15-minute film has been curated by Ilyas Sagar-Ouriaghli, a NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research PhD Student.
  • Since 2014 the NIHR Maudsley BRC has been supporting the annual Pint of Science Festival with our BRC students involved in organising the King's College London series of talks for the 'Beautiful Mind' events.
  • Communicating their research in short videos.  These videos from 2015 are intended to be used in secondary school science teaching:  PhD students' videos
