BRC spin-out Mindwave launches

Mindwave Ventures, a new spin-out social purpose company from the NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, held a special launch event this week to celebrate its successes to date and thank collaborators.

Mindwave Ventures started life in 2013 as “No 11. WW” (named after the team’s address at Number 11 Windsor Walk, Denmark Hill).  The project was sponsored by Matthew Patrick, Chief Executive of South London and Maudsley NHS Trust and Shitij Kapur, Executive Dean of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London, with a mission to drive and accelerate the transformation of healthcare technology in the UK.

Three years on, Mindwave is now working with numerous collaborators to provide innovative digital technology and data solutions for mental healthcare.  Current projects include using virtual in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and a new personalised interactive healthcare platform, MyHealthLocker 2.0.

The Mindwave team use unique creative methods to harvest ideas from clinicians and academics with experience of specific problems in healthcare, supporting rapid processes to create real-world prototypes.

At the event on Thursday 12 May, Mindwave CEO Kumar Jacob paid homage to the Mindwave team and collaborators, stating that, “It’s been an amazing journey…we’ve set up something which shows that we can work in a different way, to get the solutions to problems that need to be solved.”
